About the Coalition to Stop Violence against Women

The Coalition to Stop Violence Against Women is a network of 10 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) united to eradicate gender-based violence (GBV) against women and girls. Our member organizations, located in Yerevan, Gyumri, and Spitak, collaboratively focus on advancing Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) while actively working towards the prevention and protection of women and girls from GBV.

About the role

The communications officer will work under the UN Women and OxYGen funded projects and will contribute to the improved quality of public service delivery at national and local levels of governance in ensuring the constitutional provision of equality between women and men by addressing various forms of discrimination against women (girls).

In this function the main purpose of the assignment will be to (a) manage the content on the website and social media channels; (b) develop communication strategies to raise awareness about GBV; (c) design and implement communication campaigns to mobilise support; (d) work with media outlets to secure coverage of the issues impacting women and girls; and (e) develop the baseline and measurements for assessing the effectiveness of communication campaigns of the Coalition.

Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement communication strategies to effectively engage with our target audience, including young women and men, artists, and eco activists.
  2. Coordinate with member organizations to ensure alignment and consistency in communication efforts.
  3. Craft compelling content for various platforms, including social media channels, website, newsletters, and press releases.
  4. Maintain and enhance the Coalition’s social media presence, including managing content calendars and engaging with followers.
  5. Cultivate relationships with media outlets and prepare information packages to ensure accurate and sensitive coverage of Coalition events and initiatives.
  6. Assist in organizing and promoting Coalition events, workshops, and campaigns aimed at raising awareness about gender-based violence and promoting prevention efforts.
  7. Monitor and evaluate the impact of communication activities, providing regular reports to the team.
  8. Stay updated on relevant news, trends, and developments in the field of gender equality and violence against women.

Candidate requirements

An effective Communication Specialist should possess a diverse set of skills to promote the agenda of preventing and combating GBV. We are seeking a candidate who demonstrates a strong commitment to gender sensitivity and inclusivity, particularly in their interactions with diverse groups of women, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LBT) individuals. The qualifications and some of the key skills sought for this post are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field.
  • Previous experience in communications, marketing, or advocacy, preferably in the field of gender equality or violence prevention.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft compelling and impactful content.
  • Experience managing social media platforms and developing social media campaigns.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience working with marginalized communities, particularly LBT women, and a willingness to continuously educate oneself on gender-related issues are highly desirable qualities for this role.
  • Proficiency in Armenian and English languages.
  • Knowledge of graphic design tools and video editing software is a plus.
