Recently lawyer Inessa Petrosyan has received threats against her and her family from some Facebook user. These threats were related in particular to her professional activity. This well-known lawyer is the representative of the victim in the court on the case of Yeghishe Khachatryan’s murder, the husband of the linguist Parandzem Meytikhanyan and she regularly is subjected to the psychological attacks by the persons who are involved in the case as suspects.

The criminal case is connected with the controversy which took place on June 4, 2016 on Nubarashen highway. A group of young men who did not follow the traffic rules received rebuke from Yeghishe Soghomonyan and by hitting him numerously deprived of the right of life. This accident was held in front of Yeghishe Khachatryan’s aged mother Emma Abrahamyan. In this case the group of defendants which includes close relatives of the bodies who have high positions and titles in the RA justice system demonstrated impudent behaviour during the whole trial by cursing and threatening both the victim, the wife of the murdered person and their defender.

Thus, three women are a target of the criminals and their relatives who support and encourage them. By demonstrating such behaviour the relatives of the defendants are trying to threaten and silence the defensive side thus hindering the process of justice and deepening the atmosphere of anarchy in the country, especially in terms of violence against women.

The Coalition to Stop Violence against Women strongly condemns the threats against three women, the victim of the case Emma Abrahamyan, murdered Yeghishe Khachatryan’s wife Parandzem Meytikhanyan and their defender Inessa Petrosyan and highlights that in this situation it is vital to implement all legal measures prescribed by the state for the sake of the right of a fair trial and inviolability of the participant of the trial.
